Why Our Website Needed a New Look
Published on April 21, 2020
Not long ago, we launched Version 4 of our website, with many reasons for doing so, and we thought others might find some inspiration hearing the logic behind why we made the changes we did.
Why the new look?
It had been 4 years since our last design overhaul. Think of your smartphone from 4 years ago. It’s probably not as slim, sleek, and comprehensive as today’s models. What looked fresh and innovative on our site in 2016, started to look a bit dated by 2020. Plus, we had new content to incorporate!
What’s new?
Updated Privacy Policy
We take your privacy very seriously, and we wanted to clearly explain how we collect, store, and use your information. Our updated privacy policy gives both short and long-form answers to help you make informed decisions about sharing your personal information with us.
If you have questions or comments about this policy, you may email us.
Newsletter
We’re constantly creating educational content to help businesses, product owners, and founders in their software development journey. While we share this content on our site and social media accounts, we wanted a direct way to reach our devoted audience. But we also understand how cluttered your Inbox can get, so we promise to send our kick-app content on a monthly basis. And similar to our privacy policy, we promise to never spam you or sell your email address.
If you haven’t already, join our newsletter and get a fun welcome message while you await our first official email!
Custom Photos
Lots of great websites utilize the abundance of convenient stock photos available online. (Raising our hand over here.) In order to stand out, we decided to use photos of our actual office and employees throughout the site. We pride ourselves on transparency in everything we do, so placing images of models pretending to work in a sleek, high rise office just didn’t feel genuine.
Case Studies
Software solutions are unique by nature. Everyone’s journey is different. By sharing some of our clients’ stories, we hope you’ll find the inspiration (and experienced team) you’re looking for.
See how a hybrid digital experience for sharing resources streamlined a business’s workflow, and how an on-demand ecosystem connected dental professionals with offices in realtime.
We’ve got more exciting stories to come, so be sure to subscribe to our newsletter so you can be the first to know when we publish another one!
Accessibility
We’ve talked about the importance of accessibility in app development before, and it’s equally important in web design.
After months of working on our new site with accessibility in mind, we scored 69/100 on our site’s accessibility audit. To say we were bummed is an understatement.
Fortunately, it was an easy fix with the main issue surrounding insufficient color contrast ratios, making certain texts difficult or impossible to read. Parting with some visual elements we loved was preferred over having our site be difficult to read for someone with a disability. We’re happy to report our site now scores favorably on accessibility audits!
Podcast Transcripts
In case you didn’t know, we host a podcast called Constant Variables with new episodes releasing every other Tuesday. We wanted to make this content more accessible, so we are working on adding transcripts for each episode. We also updated the design to better match our new site’s look and feel.
Shameless plug: Constant Variables takes a non-technical look at all-things technical, helping founders, product owners, businesses, and innovators become more comfortable with technical jargon and concepts related to software solutions. Along with sharing our own insights, we regularly interview non-technical industry experts. We discuss topics ranging from how “automating your business processes” can spark innovation to questions to ask before hiring a development team. Hear from professionals who have been in your shoes and learn what they might do differently if they were to do it all over again.
Added Services
We still specialize in building native iOS and Android apps for businesses, but we also do some other cool stuff.
Strategic consulting, enterprise automation, staff augmentation, and agency partnering, to name a few, are services we’ve excelled at for years, but they lacked mention on our website. So we crafted some hip icons and gave them the attention they deserve.
So, what’s next?
Similar to an app, a website is never truly done.
We’re working on adding a Resources Page with educational content like ebooks and white papers. We also want to add a Community Page to showcase our involvement in meetups and other events in the community. Until then, let us know what you think of the new look.
